Randwick Stalls Up & Going

With the lucrative Autumn Racing Carnival looming at Sydney’s Royal Randwick, Altitude Services have been hard at it tweaking and refining the twin altitude stalls at John Thompson’s racing stables. With targeted races happening in early to mid April the 5-6 week lead in for John’s fancied runners is almost ideal.

Altitude Services – Our Biggest Equine Project to Date

Kilmore, Victoria is the site of Altitude Services latest project, our biggest to date. At this expansive pre-training facility some 100 kilometres from Melbourne Altitude Services is retrofitting an old serving barn to establish ten individual altitude stalls.

“Many of our horses are spelled and pre-trained from here” commented Michael Trotter facility manager. “By pre-acclimatizing the horses to high altitude here we’re able to send them to our trainers in tip top condition to start their racing campaigns. A number of our trainers around the country have been working with Altitude Services and have installed on course altitude stalls to sustain the altitude effect once the horses get to Melbourne, Sydney or Adelaide. We’re confident that by putting this infrastructure in place we’ll be well ahead of the game come the Spring Carnival this year.”

“The Kilmore property is the biggest project we’ve undertaken to date. We recently completed a similar retrofit in Sydney using refrigeration panels for two pre-existing stalls, but moving to a ten horse facility has been a real challenge. We’ve opted for the latest hypoxic technology from our European offices which will dramatically reduce the power requirements needed to run this system. Also, our Kilmore client wishes to have a scalable system in place so that we can potentially take this to an 18 horse facility in the future. The new technology we’ve adopted here allows us to do this with only minimal infrastructure updates, keeping costs to a minimum” commented Altitude Services General Manager, Rod Cedaro.

With more equine and human facilities earmarked for development during 2015, Altitude Services is looking forward to an exciting future.

Altitude Services Nears Completion of Randwick Retrofit

Altitude Services has been working closely with John Thompson Racing Stables over the last couple of months to retrofit two existing stables at John’s Randwick based training/racing facility in Sydney, NSW in preparation for the lucrative upcoming 2015 Autumn Racing Carnival.

“We saw the impressive work that Altitude Services had completed at other racing facilities here in Australia. We read the supportive scientific information on the system and decided to invest in the technology. A legal 1-3% performance improvement at our level of racing is a huge advantage” commented John.

“John’s facility posed a unique challenge for our building team” commented Altitude Services general manager, Rod Cedaro. “In previous situations we’ve either built new systems from scratch, or been forced to retrofit poorly constructed, but purpose built, altitude stables. John’s circumstances were different. Here we were faced with existing stables that needed to be converted right beside normal horse boxes. We had to ensure that the area was effectively sound-proofed whilst modifying the existing stables in the context of the overall existing training facility. I think we’re all pretty happy with what has been achieved, on time and on budget. We can all now look forward to an exciting and successful Autumn Racing Carnival.”

Once Bitten Twice Shy

Australian champion boxer Susie Ramadan isn’t going to make the same mistake twice!

She fought for a World Title in Mexico City a while back and was beaten. “I couldn’t believe how much I struggled with the altitude. The woman I’m fighting is a local and as such she was well acclimatized to the rarified air” commented Susie.

BOXER IN A BUBBLE – World Title contender, Australia’s Susie Ramadan leaves no stone unturned preparing for her October 25th World Title Fight in Mexico City by sleeping in an altitude tent for three weeks prior to the fight.

“When I got back to Australia I started researching the topic a little further and was reading about how various athletes, who were favourites at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, were beaten, not necessarily by better athletes, but by athletes who were from high altitude areas and used to the environment. This sounded exactly like what had happened to me. I’d heard about how Altitude Services had masterfully steered Randy Petalcorin’s altitude training resulting in a world title, so I decided I too wanted to be guided by the world leaders in altitude simulation” said Susie.

“Susie’s experience isn’t unique. If two athletes are of a similar ability and one lives at altitude and the other doesn’t, the one living at altitude is at a vast advantage the longer the event goes. All we’re doing is helping to level the playing field for Susie. We’re providing a progressive program over a three week period to pre-acclimate her before she arrives in Mexico City a week before the fight. At least this time she’ll be competing on a level playing field” commented Rod Cedaro, General Manager of Altitude Services.

Randy’s World Title Victory

Watch Altitude Services sponsored boxer – Randy “Ultratune” Petalcorin claim his World Title – we’re hoping it is the first of many for Altitude Services sponsored athletes. As a young altitude simulation company our systems have produced Group 1 winning race horses and now a boxing world title holder – not bad in less than 12 months!

“My training going into this event was perfect. The altitude training gave me the edge. I finished the fight in the seventh round and felt strong throughout” commented “Ultratune” soon after the fight.

This gives Randy an impressive 22-1-1 record with 17 wins by knock-out.

Altitude Services recently showcased its state-of-the-art 6m X 50m altitude pool cover (pictured above) at the Runaway Bay Sports Super Centre on Queensland’s beautiful Gold Coast.

“It was very encouraging” said Altitude Services General Manager, Rod Cedaro. “I presented to about 60 of Queensland’s leading sports administrators and then showed them, and the assembled media, the pool cover. Everyone was so supportive and positive it clearly illustrates the enthusiasm with which this initiative is being welcomed with on the Gold Coast.”

The Gold Coast is scheduled to host the next Commonwealth Games in 2018 and Altitude Services have already well progressed discussions with Super Centre management to construct a luxury 5 star 32 bed altitude hotel at the Centre.

“We’re hoping the pool cover will be just our starting point. With the Pan Pac Swimming Championships currently being conducted on the Gold Coast we’ve already had interest from international swim teams in the technology, we believe that the hotel has incredible potential to attract athletes from all over the world to train on Queensland’s magnificent Gold Coast” commented Cedaro.
