Altitude Services gives Randy Petalcorin the Razor’s Edge

Innovative promoter and manager Peter Maniatis contacted Altitude Services General Manager, Rod Cedaro, back in September having heard about the training and performance edge associated with altitude training.

“I work with a young boxer – Randy “The Razor” Petalcorin. He’s an incredible talent, I think he’s got the ability to go all the way and I want to ensure he has every opportunity to do so. When I heard about the work that Rod and his team at Altitude Services have been doing with athletes I thought, this is the legal edge we’ve been looking for.”

In the space of 3 weeks Altitude Services had built a purpose designed boxing ring enclosure as well as a sleeping dormitory for the young Pilipino prodigy.

“When I first started sparing in the altitude ring I was short of breath and really struggled. Under Rod’s direction we built up my training slowly and I started sleeping in my altitude room in the lead up to my last fight. Rod and the team at Altitude Services helped me out with my training and nutrition program going into the fight. At the start of the program I really struggled, it was new and different, but by the time I started to come into fight week I felt like a new man. I was in the best shape of my life!”

It is history now that Randy knocked out seasoned campaigner Samransak Singmanasakv in early November. As he prepares for his next bout in early 2014 you can bet altitude training and Altitude Services will be part of this future superstar’s preparation.

A New Working Relationship

Altitude Services is proud to announce a new working relationship with leading Victorian trainer, Mr. Greg Eurell.

“I’ve always been interested in altitude training and the potential benefits in the horse racing industry, however the costs associated with this technology have previously been prohibitive. I’ve reviewed a few potential systems on the market including the two sets at Danny O’Brien’s training facility – those that required complete rebuilding from the United States and those built locally by Altitude Services.

There was really no comparison in price, quality and equipment used. I’m very much looking forward to taking delivery of these new stalls prior to Christmas” commented Mr. Eurell.

Altitude Services will be very busy over the coming few months completing two new installations at Danny O’Brien’s racing facility and now Greg Eurell’s stalls. Check back in a couple of weeks time as we work frantically to meet Greg’s timeline!

What A Mess

Back in September of this year representatives of O’Brien’s Racing Stables and Ultra Thoroughbred Racing – owners of Cox Plate winning horse Shamus Award – met with the Australian representative/agent of the American company “Advanced Altitude 365” (AA365), David Wrout and reviewed the failed technology provided by this company.

In order to protect others in the racing industry from these sub-standard products, Altitude Services has been provided with the following photographic evidence supplied by Ultra Racing.

Altitude Services continues to work closely with O’Brien’s Racing Stables and Ultra Thoroughbred racing to repair these stalls. The dangerous gas concentrations measured within the stalls – which caused severe respiratory complications with one horse – greatly exceeded the capacity of the sub-standard air filtration systems provided by AA365.

This resulted in the need to completely replace both the filtration system(s) and air conditioning systems – which were destroyed by the waste gas accumulation.

All of the above problems were acknowledged and agreed upon with Mr. David Wrout (Advanced Altitude 365’s) Australian agent, when reviewing the failed systems with representatives of the stables and Ultra Thoroughbred Racing.

Advanced Altitude 365 were made aware of these defects and the fact that the systems would not be used until the problems had been rectified.

Altitude Services has only recently completed (mid-November) repairs/improvements to and commissioned the defective AA365 stalls.

Altitude Services has now been commissioned to build eight new altitude stalls and an altitude training room at the racing stable along with VO2max testing capacity and gait analysis facilities at the stables.

Ultra Thoroughbred Racing, who initially purchased this faulty equipment warns prospective clients interested in utilizing simulated altitude systems to be wary of any claims made by Advanced Altitude 365 or its Australian agent/representative, Mr. David Wrout.

Ultra Thoroughbred Racing is currently in the process of instigating legal proceedings against both AA365 direct and their Australian agent/representative for damages and misrepresentation.

Partnership with Danny O’Brien

Altitude Services is pleased to announce we have recently taken over the repairs and retrofit of high altitude training stalls at Danny O’Brien’s Flemington Racecourse training facility.

Purchased from a company in the United States by owner of Cox Plate winner Shamas Award (Mr. Sean Buckley), the stalls from the United States have lay dormant for nearly 3 months.

“Between the electricity supply not being Australian compliant, air-conditioning systems failing, air filtration systems going down, rubber matting having to be replaced, this whole process has been an ordeal from the onset” remarked Mr. O’Brien recently.

“I feel really sorry for Sean, the physiology behind the stalls is sound and we really look forward to using altitude as part of our future preparation, however in this instance, Sean was sold a very expensive lemon and it has, and is, costing him a small fortune to repair and make these stalls imported from the United States functional.”

Altitude Services is working closely with Mr. O’Brien and Mr. Buckley to ensure not only are the US sourced stalls rendered functional but also to improve their design as well as install a purpose built altitude training and testing facility at Mr. O’Brien’s Flemington facility in early 2014.
